From Friday 4 September, the fairways of Bermagui Golf Club will come alive as local members, visiting golfers, families and spectators gather for the 2026 Bermagui Blue Marlin Golf Classic.

Held from Friday 4 September to Sunday 13 September, the Blue Marlin Classic is a great example of that spirit, with a program featuring the Women’s and Men’s Opens, mixed competitions, shootouts and social activities, alongside a Charity Golf Day supporting R U OK? 

Where competition meets connection

Now in its second year under the Blue Marlin Golf Classic name, the event has grown from Bermagui Golf Club’s longstanding Women’s and Men’s Opens into 10 days of competition and activity.

Around 135 golfers are expected to take part in each of the major Open tournaments, which will bookend the Classic. Some participants will include familiar faces from the local area, while others will travel to Bermagui specifically to compete. 

For returning players, it is an opportunity to catch up with friends and enjoy the course again. For those visiting for the first time, it offers a warm introduction to Bermagui Golf Club and the town that surrounds it.

Women’s Captain Sharon Wilder says seeing people reconnect and enjoy the event is one of the highlights of the Classic. “The event is about seeing people enjoying themselves, building connections and coming together as a community. That sense of camaraderie is what makes the week so special.” 

An event shared by the whole town

As golfers arrive from outside the region, the Classic naturally extends beyond the course. Players and their families stay locally, discover Bermagui’s shops and venues and spend time around town, while local businesses, sponsors and volunteers all play a part in bringing the event to life.

Bermagui Golf Club President Brien Winther said events like the Blue Marlin Classic create a positive atmosphere that reaches beyond the competition itself.

“Positive events like the Blue Marlin Golf Classic create a great atmosphere around the club and help build momentum for the other events we have coming up.” 

Golf with a greater purpose

This year, the Blue Marlin Classic will also use the connection created through sport to support an important cause. On Wednesday 9 September, players will take to the course for a Charity Golf Day supporting R U OK?, raising awareness of mental health and encouraging people to check in with friends, family and those around them. For Bermagui Golf Club, the Charity Golf Day is an opportunity to support a cause that resonates strongly within the local community.

“Mental health affects every community, including Bermagui, and its impact is often much bigger than we realise,” Brien said. “It’s important for people to see it being discussed and supported within their own community.” 

The Charity Golf Day also reflects something club members already value - staying connected and looking out for one another. By creating space for these conversations through an event people already enjoy being part of, the club hopes the impact of the day will continue well beyond the final round.

With the Blue Marlin Classic getting underway this Friday, there will be plenty to enjoy on and off the course. 



Spectators are welcome to follow the competition and enjoy the atmosphere, with weekend barbecues and a Trivia Night at Bermagui Country Club on Saturday 5 September adding to the action away from the fairways.
